AWARD 2017 BEST SKI CHALET _ DESIGNETAL

This chalet was originally built by our architects in 2009. A few years later, the new owners wanted the chalet to be more like them, so they wanted to rethink the existing chalet's interior spaces and style. The renovation of the main chalet involved reorganising and revamping the living areas on the ground floor, refurbishing the two master bedrooms and the guest rooms, and creating a bowling alley/bar in the basement.

Passionate about materials and avant-garde ambience, the guests wanted a warm ambience while bringing an innovative and contemporary spirit. Vernacular materials have been used in innovative ways, enhanced by the play of light and reflection. The soft materials are brought to life by the reflections of the chromed metal, which add a touch of sparkle and give rhythm to the space. The staircases have been worked like a chrome sculpture, giving the impression of an inverted perspective.

One of the challenges of the project was also to combine a large number of materials, all as different as they were magnificent, while maintaining harmony and logic in the project. In this way, each material was able to create a warm and welcoming space, while adding its own personal touch, based on its specific qualities.

The end result is a gentle blend of traditional, precisely measured originality, innovative materials and character, with the lighting dramatising the spaces. The chalet won the 2017 Award in the Ski Chalet category.
