Villa W
All projectsThis villa on the hillside of Grimisuat, in the Valais region, benefits from an exceptional location that enhances both the natural setting and the contemporary architecture. Nestling on a south-facing plot, it offers uninterrupted panoramic views over the valley, capturing light throughout the day.
This ideal orientation also maximises passive solar gain, guaranteeing comfort and energy efficiency. The sloping terrain dictated a linear layout for the building, which runs parallel to the contour lines. This architectural choice is part of an approach that respects the site, allowing the villa to blend harmoniously into the landscape. The narrow, elongated structure hugs the natural lines of the land, minimising visual impact while giving every room an unobstructed view of the horizon. One of the most remarkable features of this villa is the integration of an outdoor swimming pool.
Designed as a natural extension of the house, it seems to “cling” to the building, while flowing freely into the garden, creating a continuity between the architecture and the surrounding landscape. The swimming pool floats elegantly above the ground, suspended between the house and the pasture below, reinforcing the dialogue between the building and nature.
This subtle interplay between structure and freedom gives the whole structure a lightness and fluidity that reflects the beauty of the Alpine setting. This contemporary villa is a perfect example of architecture that takes full advantage of its environment, where every element is designed to harmonise with the site, creating a living space that is both functional and aesthetically in harmony with the surrounding nature.
