COMPETITION 2ND PRIZE

The building is located at the southern end of the plot. It is aligned with the Rue du Grand St-Bernard, on which it displays the four stained glass windows by Hans Erni that adorn the façade.

The building is entered through a canopy, which gives a glimpse of an enclosed space with a pond. Continuing inside, you come to a reception area, before moving on to the large hall distributing the funeral chambers. The entrance hall opens onto an outdoor patio. This patio takes full advantage of the body of water, a presence that is both physical and emotional. The water reflects the beauty of a coffered wall, decorated with a large fresco that can be inlaid in concrete or printed on ceramic. Together, these two spaces form the heart of the project: a place of meditation and reunion for the families and loved ones of the deceased. 

The façades are made up of ochre-tinted prefabricated concrete elements, marked by vertical pillars. These give them a monumental appearance and an identity that is specific to their function as enclosures. They dictate a logical framework on which the entire plan is based. These concrete frames are perforated at intervals to accommodate the four stained glass windows, as well as the glazing on the eastern entrance façade. 

The enclosure formed by this repetitive structure makes it possible to create introverted interior spaces, always benefiting from natural lighting, yet isolated from external nuisances.
